We went camping with some friends on Fri. and what an experience we had!! The sun shone and the wind, oh how it blew and blew and blew!! We came home all red like lobsters from sun burns and all disheveled, like we got caught in the dryer! The kids had fun trying to start the fire, but
RJ and T succeeded with lots of kindling and matches! Thank heavens the fire pit had deep sides! Our tent tried really hard to blow away, several times, but T thought it would be great if we placed the 5 gallon water container in one corner of our tent to keep it weighted down. A great and conventional thought, until a strong gust of wind knocked the container over and leaked all over our friend's little girl's sleeping bag and clothes! So at 9:30 or 10:00 at night we were trying to hang dry, fire dry and wind dry all of her stuff so she could go to bed without being soaked and freezing all night! At midnight the sleeping bag was finally dried enough to sleep in! As I crawled in bed, I just laid there watching our tent move all around, like a amoeba, changing shape and going in all directions. Slipping in and out of sleep, due to the rustling of the tent and the howling of the wind, I knew this one was going to be a long, long, night. I don't think I ever wished morning to come so quickly! Sugar our dog, was so upset and scared she curled up in a little ball at my feet. I couldn't get her to move at all! So now I had to contort my body in weird ways and move often to not get cramps in my legs or back! I had to physically move her several times, not easy when she weighs a good 60 lbs and doesn't want to move! I started to get delirious, all I could do was laugh! At this point it had to be 2 am! I drifted off to sleep when MC woke me up. She had to go to the bathroom. I couldn't believe it! There was no way I was walking across the campground in this tornado type wind to go potty! "Tree here we come!" I thought. So as we were trying to figure out how to get shoes and jackets and not step on the other 4 people scattered throughout the tent, the back corner of the tent caved in. I stood for a minute in shock, then the opposite corner caved in as well. T got me moving at that point. We thought we could fix it, but after 20 min. of wrestling the wind, and two broken tent poles, we decided to sleep in the truck! The time we finally got settled was 4:30 am! As T and I laid in the Isuzu we realized how nice and quiet it was....until another gust of wind came along! We were parked under a pine tree that had low branches so every time there was a heavy wind (which was about every 10 min.) this horrible scratching sound screeched across the top of the car! Oh how we laughed!! We were so thrilled at 7:30 when the kids got up! We felt that we survived the longest night ever!! The next day was still windy, but we had fun fishing (
RJ fished a good 4 hours straight, not stopping to even eat!) and throwing the ball into the reservoir for Sugar. I did yell at the wind when it was lunch time, blowing bread and flying meat did aggravate me a little! My friend's kids think of me in a different way, I'm sure, but I sure did have a great time and now have some funny memories!! On the way home, my kids kept saying, we have got to do that more often! I agree, but I would like a little less wind!

Your post made me laugh. It was quite the night, but oh the memories. We did have a great time and are anxious to do it again.
